progressive cyberdadaism from our nation’s capital
I don’t see how the Obama campaign can accept MoveOn.org’s endorsement (mentioned here as well as in my inbox) and reject DC for Democracy’s endorsement at the same time.
The message becomes: we are independent of special interests, except the ones with scads of money.
( Plus, just between us kittens, MoveOn.org is not that easy a group to work with. But, you didn’t hear that from me. )
This bit from the Obama campaign’s Bill Burton is exactly wrong: (NYT, link lightly stolen from an eRobin comment)
“We do not think people should be donating to 527s,” said Bill Burton, a campaign spokesman. “We would rather have them involved in our campaign. It is our hope that anyone who supports Obama does so directly through his campaign and not through these outside groups.”
Those outside groups Burton refers to are… whatdoyacallit…. democracy. They are people like you and me who reject the top-down mentality of Stalin’s Russia, Mao’s China, or Rove’s RNC. Some folks see a garden, some folks, unfortunately see a bunch of grass, vines and ferns, getting in the way of their favorite ficus.

see video: MoveOn.org Pushes the Worst (Clinton and Obama) while ignoring Gravel for President
Hi Eli, you and your organization are doing such a disservice to the American people. You and the people who control MoveOn.org are undermining efforts to end the war. MoveOn pushes candidates who ignore the US Constitution and International Law. Obama openly violates international law by threatening Iran with an attack.

I’m with you on Move On’s ability to play well with others. I’m also with you on Obama’s comments about 527’s but I figure they were all about last year and that it’s sort of an open secret that he’s happy for the help. But here’s a confession: I voted for Obama in the Move On poll expressly to see what his reaction to the endorsement would be. When he accepted it with such grace (probably in an effort to get those Edwards voters to give him a loving look) I was shocked. To make up for my nastiness, I spent an hour calling voters in CA today to remind them to Vote Obama! on Tuesday. I’ll call again tomorrow because of this story in the NYT.
