progressive cyberdadaism from our nation’s capital
I said “could,” not “will,” or “is likely too.” I’m using the same logic as this headline fromwingnutico: Left could push pro-Israel voters to GOP.
Here’s a telling excerpt:
Outside Congress, some of the most vociferous criticism of Israel comes from the hard-core left, including Cindy Sheehan (”You get America out of Iraq and Israel out of Palestine, and you’ll stop the terrorism”). Other left-wing Iraq war critics have also taken aim at Israel.
The Anti-Defamation League in an August 2006 statement noted that sponsors of anti-war rallies in Washington and other cities “have a history of providing a platform to an array of extremist views, including support for Palestinian terrorism and the terrorist group Hezbollah, calls for the destruction of the Jewish state and messages equating Zionism with Nazism.”
When this author (who appears to get her wingnut welfare checks cut at HumanEvents.com) doesn’t make me laugh, she makes me cry.
Hard-Core Leftists? I’m reminded of that scene in the opening of the Notorious Betty Page, where the perp in the adult bookstore asks if he can find something particularly fetishistic. I guess hard-core leftism would be Al Franken eating Ben&Jerry’s ice cream off of The Nation magazine.
But her equation of war protests with anti-Zionism is a howler. As is this:
Dan Gerstein, a Democratic consultant and Politico columnist, candidly acknowledged that religious faith, generally higher on the right, accounts for the growing support within the Republican Party, while the “faith vacuum” on the left leaves some on the other side of the aisle less enamored of Israel.
Dan Gerstein works for Joe Liberman, who is not a Democrat. On issues involving the war in Iraq he’s a Republican, for all intents and purposes.
The bit about the “faith vacuum” is priceless. The enormous sucking sound you hear isn’t the back draft from Bush defectors running away, it’s the faith vacuum that the Democratic party posesses in lieu of Republican morality.
