progressive cyberdadaism from our nation’s capital
I’m just getting back from a trip to my old stomping grounds, Cambridge, MA. I had very limited access to internet, and so lost track of this crazy piece of terra infotainia we call the blogosphere.
I was disappointed to hear that Amanda Marcotte and Melissa McEwan may get fired from the Edwards campaign because of the actions of a few bad instawingnuts. While I don’t know either Amanda or Melissa personally, I’ve followed their blogs forevah, and like their stuff. I’m sure I wasn’t the only one who was looking forward to how they’d handle the Edwards campaign. Likewise, I like Amanda’s and Melissa’s choice of candidate. While Edwards isn’t my first choice, I like the way he’s handled himself- at least up to this point.
I think what disappoints me the most is that mainstream political candidates, like Edwards, don’t understand the nature of the people that are trying to get these bloggers fired. It actually has little to do with politics or religion, people like Malkin and Donahue are by their nature driven by power, and by their ability to wreak havoc. (”Hollywood is controlled by secular Jews who hate Christianity in general and Catholicism in particular. It’s not a secret, okay? And I’m not afraid to say it.”)
Is the Edwards campaign naieve? Are they intimidated by the ability of rightwing bloggers to get their message out on the AP and NYT?
This made me think it would be fun to do a modernized version of Snow White and the Seven Dwarves with John Edwards as Snow White, and various bloggers as the dwarves.

You can send the campaign a message; there’s a link over at Pandagon. Who knows? Maybe every little bit helps.
