progressive cyberdadaism from our nation’s capital
Conservative commentator Paul Mulshine, Why I can’t stand Bush:
I often hear from readers who wonder why I so thoroughly dislike George W. Bush.
It’s simple. Living in New Jersey, as I do, I spend a lot of time ar guing politics with liberals. In the pre-Bush era, I found it easy to win such arguments. I have fond memories of defending the policies of Ronald Reagan back in the good old days. “He called the Soviet Union an evil empire!” the liberal would say.
“But it is an evil empire,” I would point out.
“He supports the murderous contras in Nicaragua,” the liberal would say.
“So do the Nicaraguan people,” I would say.
History, of course, vindicated Reagan. Even liberal commenta tors are coming around to the point of view that he was one of the most effective presidents in history.
But George W.?
“He lied about Saddam Hussein having weapons of mass destruc tion,” the liberal will say. “He went after Iraq with all the foresight of a terrier going after a Toyota. He’s run up huge budget deficits that our children will be paying back decades from now.”
“Where did you get that tie?” I’ll respond. “The dollar store?”
I should point out that this is what we call reality based. I can deal with this kind of conservative. Unlike the Bush apologists who reflexively blame the various disasters and debacles of this administration on the MSM, angry lefty bloggers, and of course Michael Moore, he’s willing to confront the reality of the situation.
