progressive cyberdadaism from our nation’s capital
From Kos via Pacific Views via Suburban Guerilla I see that the rhetoric for an invasion of Iran is ratcheting up.
Here’s Steve Clemon’s take: (Washington Note)
Energy Secretary Sam Bodman is saying that it will take three years for Americans to see gas prices fall again.
But that’s if we don’t bomb Iran, don’t create an axis of oil states allied with Russia and China against America, and don’t somehow disrupt oil flow from Venezuela.
What I learned from this foreign minister last night and a room full of extremely smart people is that there are forces escalating America’s and Iran’s tensions — and a single serious miscalculation could dramatically alter America’s position in the world — and yet miscalculations are already abounding.
Senator Man-on-Dog (Insane-PA) has introduced the Iran Freedom Act as an amendment to the $106.5 billion war and hurricane relief supplemental spending measure. Its language is based on HR 282 (the House version) and contains this: (emphasis mine)
(1) contacts should be expanded with opposition groups in Iran that meet the criteria under subsection (b);
(2) support for a transition to democracy in Iran should be expressed by United States representatives and officials in all appropriate international fora;
(3) efforts to bring a halt to the nuclear weapons program of Iran, including steps to end the supply of nuclear components or fuel to Iran, should be intensified, with particular attention focused on the cooperation regarding such program–
(A) between the Government of Iran and the Government of the Russian Federation; and
(B) between the Government of Iran and individuals from China and Pakistan, including the network of Dr. Abdul Qadeer (A. Q.) Khan;
This appears to tie together nuclear weapons programs with nuclear power generation, calculated to provoke a (somewhat negative) response from Iran.

Are Santorum’s kids old enough for the draft?

As I recall they’re being home-schooled at the McMansion Santorum purchased using a low-interest loan from a campaign contributor.
So, no. They’re too young for the draft.
