progressive cyberdadaism from our nation’s capital

Like a number of the Drinking Liberally contingent, I saw the SOTU from the party room of the Center for American Progress. Pretty much the left half of the blogging world was there, including Ezra, Atrios, Matt Stoller, Amy Sullivan, August, Steve Clemons, and L’enfant Bonaduce, who was avoiding me.
But, it’s important for me to note I wasn’t there to hang out and shmooze. The SOTU is an important opportunity to learn which of Bush’s policies I’ll need to spend the most energy fighting.
For instance, when he said: (WaPo)
Tonight I ask you to pass legislation to prohibit the most egregious abuses of medical research: human cloning in all its forms; creating or implanting embryos for experiments; creating human-animal hybrids; and buying, selling or patenting human embryos.
Like most progressives, I read the Island of Doctor Moreau, or at least an entertaining South Park cartoon based on Moreau. I wondered if we wouldn’t better off with a little more human-animal combinatorics. I considered hybrids like Rumsfeld with a hyena (Hyumsfeld?) or Dick Cheney with a pirranha (Chirranha?). Would we be able to tell the hybrid from the original? Now, science will never know.

Rox,
I had to explain that one to the StealthBadger last night. The metaphor makes more sense when you explain that the oft-quoted bloggers are like the Partridge Family. When you say Reuben Kincaid is like Kevin Drum, people get it.
I would ask: who is Keith Partridge? Ezra?
Okay, then who is Susan Dey?
