News For blogspot.com Bloggers

by @ 1:00 am. Filed under Uncategorized

If you have a blogspot address, you may be in for a surprise.

I just learned tonight that my old address, althippo.blogspot.com has been sold to a spammer. I don’t believe that was part of the blogger agreement, however, and it’s certainly not something I’d agree to if I understood that this was a possible outcome of signing up with the blogger service.

Part of my surprise this evening was that the address of my RSS feed pointed to the blogspot address, the one now owned by a spammer (it should be correct, now). I’d run into problems with the RSS feed before, problems of my own doing, but was reasonably sure that I’d fixed it in the template. This time, it looks like the settings had changed.

When the blogspot address was turned over to the spammer, did he also gain the right to change the blogspot settings?

Like many, I’ve assumed that blogspot was a good place to start a site, before moving to a separate domain. This is not something I would assume now.
