Bike to Work Day: Followup

Yes, I did it, and my clothes still haven’t dried out. When I got to the “pit stop” where I picked up my t-shirt, my first question was: where’s the food? For some reason I had pictured brunch at the Hilton. Visions of omelettes, bacon, and Belgian waffles sustained me.

To make things worse the rain was so strong that my brakes were at half strength, which meant I had to break going downhill or risk not being able to stop at an intersection. By the time I got in I was wiped out.

“Where’s breakfast,” I asked?
“You’re in luck,” the woman at the check-in assured me. “We have both oranges and bananas, and you may have one of each.”

No sausages. Damn the health-conscious among us.

When I got in to the office Pavlov was most amused. “Has the Hippo been taking a dip in the Nile?”

It was my turn to be annoyed. Still it wasn’t called Bike to Work if it’s Pleasant Out Day was it? And isn’t the point that we’re going to need to tough it out a bit if we’re going to lick our dependence on oil?
